Most new business owners are excited to be owning and running their first business and to be starting from the ground up. Countless hours are typically spent thinking of a name as well as the brand’s “look and feel”. Many questions also arise at this time regarding what to include and exclude in the design of a company logo. Here are a few basic tips:
Using Legal Terms
If your company has Inc., LLC, LLP, or Corp, do not add it in the logo. Think back to successful companies such as Pepsi, Coca-Cola, or Mercedes. Do any of those companies incorporate their legal jargon in logos? No, legal terms are unnecessary and will just confuse your customers.
Taglines
Taglines are essential to businesses because they help set you apart from you competition. However, they do not belong in your logo. Taglines tend to evolve over time, and if you have incorporated the tagline into the logo, you will then have to recreate printed material, signs, and promotional items anytime you change your tagline.
Importance of Design Appeal
Lastly, it’s important to have your logo look clean and clutter free. By adding info like phone numbers or an address, not only do you have to update all marketing material (aforementioned) but you add distractions. The more clutter a customer sees the less likely they are to remember what they are seeing.
The most important thing to remember when developing a logo is “simplicity”. A logo that is easy to understand and memorable will attract more clients to your business.
