Social Media Content Creation Checklist and some Music Advice

Blog post by: Ashley White
It seems it’s almost impossible to be a successful business today and not touch social media. From the Facebook world to the Twitter universe, most are dabbling in connecting with customers and clients on these evolving mediums.

This raises the question though: is this time and money being well spent on these tools? We know millions visit any given social media website on a daily basis, but this doesn’t mean people are looking at your page.

The key to increasing viewership is content. And like the words to your favorite song, you have to make it unique and memorable…

1.      Repetition is important.
You didn’t hear “Free Bird” once, know the words, and sing along. However, once you hear the latest Pitbull anthem 20 or more times on radio in a day, you are going flip the station, without a second thought.  The same goes for social media. There is a fine line between sharing your latest news enough for it be memorable and overwhelming your audience.

2.      Be relatable.
You picked your favorite song because in some way it means something to you. If you want people to care about what you have to say it needs to mean something. It is amazing how many businesses go into instant advertising mode upon joining social media. There is a value in social media as a marketing tool when your content includes more than just a constant sales pitch.

3.      Have fun with it.
Don’t forget the original intent of these tools is to connect friends. It is perfectly okay to have a silly Friday post or share a little bit about your employees or customers (with their permission). If you’re boring, no one is going to listen to you, just ask Nickelback.

These tips may sound simple but so is “Don’t worry, Be Happy”, and that won a Grammy!
