The Phone isn’t Dead!

With all the technology at our fingertips–ranging from the internet to data on the smartphone–it can be easy to forget that the act of calling or talking into the receiver is still a viable way to communicate. While marketing has evolved to utilize technological advancements, human involvement and contact is still important.

Here are some things to keep in mind when it comes to marketing with phone in hand!

Sometimes the Mobile Internet Search Is Not Enough

Mobile phone owners actually still use their devices to make phone calls—shocker, right?  Fifty-two percent of people who connect with a business after doing a mobile search do so via the phone. This means that an actual person to answer questions is important to your business and your customers. Therefore, having knowledgeable people manning your phone is a must!

The Human Voice Equals Clarity

The voice has a real advantage because it has the ability to add context through tonal subtleties. Written words on a screen just cannot optimize the intimate sense of connection and relationship conveyed through human tones. Therefore, communication over a phone call develops rapport and trust which then allows you to influence behavior. Keystrokes are just not the same; the human voice has a better chance of winning customers every time!

Put a Smile in your Greeting

Just like how you would talk to a stranger on the street or a friend in a coffee shop, a smile should be natural. Smiling when you talk on the phone allows you to pretend the customer is face-to-face with you and creates a welcoming environment. A smile perks up your mood and decreases any pushiness in your voice allowing the customer the opportunity to feel more comfortable to open up about their issue, concern, or inquiry and eventually call again.

The virtual world is at our fingertips, but so are the dial buttons. Remembering the value of the melodious human trill and immediate answers could be all it takes to make a difference with customers. Conveyance of a happy and optimistic expression can only help and keep them coming back!
