Self-Care for Business Professionals

Let’s face it, the traditional 9-5 job is a thing of the past, and the “24/7” job has taken root in 21st century corporate America.  As technology has advanced, it has become more and more difficult to disconnect from work, especially for business professionals.  There is an unspoken expectation in this industry to not only work long hours, but also to be available at home if anything comes up.  These days, it seems like everyone is a workaholic.  But as the hours spent dedicated to your job increase, so should your prioritization of self-care.

Self-care isn’t just taking a break from work; scrolling through your Facebook news feed for an hour won’t help you to relax as much as you think it will.  Rather, try to completely disconnect and spend some time creatively focusing yourself in a healthy way.  You get to decide what you need and how best to care for yourself.  Yoga, writing, fishing, exercising, meditating, and painting are just a few examples from an endless list of possible outlets.  Whatever you choose, allow yourself to unplug and give the activity your full attention.

Remember, it’s free, but the results are priceless.  Self-care helps ease stress, which is undoubtedly necessary after working long hours and can ultimately make you happier.  It can also help you to focus yourself and recharge.  As a business professional, it is important to go into work with a fresh, clear mind in order to effectively accomplish your daily goals.

Self-care isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity.  You are your greatest asset.  Thus, if you do not take care of yourself, your work will suffer as a result.  Statistically, people who are happier produce better work and collaborate better, which fosters a more positive work environment.  Although the term “self-care” implies that it is centered solely around oneself, it benefits not only you, but also everyone around you.

The truth is, it’s hard for people to put everything else aside and take time for themselves because that’s just not what we’re accustomed to in this day and age.  Nevertheless, that’s what makes it all the more important.  Even if your schedule is hectic, taking 10 minutes before bed to catch your breath and focus on yourself can go a long way and ultimately help you in every aspect of your life.

If you feel like you don’t have time to take care of yourself, you’re doing too much.  Let us take something off your plate. Contact Baer Performance Marketing and outsource your marketing needs with us.
