Summer is a time for warm weather, cookouts, and outdoor activities – and it’s also about time we introduced our summer semester intern, Kaelen Bailey!

Kaelen is studying Business Administration at UW-Stout and started her internship with us just this week. She’ll be getting some great experience in social media marketing, copywriting, ad buying, client relations, and so much more! Our interns get a chance to develop their know-how in numerous facets of marketing and are able to apply their academic studies in real-world experiences. Read on to learn more about Kaelen and her BPM summer internship!

Why did you choose to pursue a degree in business administration?

I chose to pursue a degree in business administration because it has a vast number of possibilities when it comes to the professional world. I can explore a broad range of occupations and processes that I would not necessarily have access to with a different degree.

What have you enjoyed learning about in your classes so far?

One of the things I have enjoyed learning about in my classes is how different structures within the workplace operate and how to effectively and efficiently operate within those different structures. I think it is important to be aware of the diverse situations one can be placed in and to be able to work within them.

What interests or excites you the most about marketing?

The aspect of marketing that excites me the most is being able to help a company grow and prosper in the way they want to. Being able to assist a company in advertising their product or service in an efficient and fun way is important to me.

Why did you choose to intern at BPM?

BPM’s process and areas of focus when it comes to their clients are some of the main reasons I chose to intern here. I believe it’s important to be client focused, especially in the field of marketing, and to also know how to make it fun and something not only you enjoy, but that your client does.

What goals are you looking to achieve while at BPM?

I am hoping to gain more overall marketing knowledge and put it to use in a professional setting outside of the classroom. I think classroom education is important, but being able to apply something in a real-world, professional setting is vital when it comes to growing your career.

What is your current dream job?

Although I am excited for where my current journey has taken me and what the future holds, my current dream job would be to assist with marketing for the Minnesota Twins.

What social media platform is your favorite and why?

Instagram is currently my favorite social media platform. It has evolved greatly over the last couple of years. It’s not only a picture-sharing platform as it used to be. You can buy, sell, advertise, and connect with not only individuals, but businesses as well. It allows me to keep up to date on friends as well as brands I love and receive information relevant to my interests.

How do you like to spend your time outside of work or school? Do you have any hobbies?

Outside of work or school, I enjoy outdoor activities, such as hiking, hammocking, and skiing. When it comes to indoor activities, I like to watch movies, read, or paint. Lastly, any of my hobbies are better when spent with friends or family!

What is something interesting most people don’t know about you?

I really enjoy watching horror movies. My family grew up throwing Halloween parties, so Halloween has always been an important part of my life. In addition, it’s also one of the reasons I have an orange tabby named Pumpkin.

What topic could you give an hour-long presentation on with little to no preparation?

If I could choose any topic to give an hour-long presentation on with little to no preparation, I would go with the importance of spending time outdoors and the mental and health benefits of doing so.

What’s the best advice you’ve been given? Who was it from?

The best advice I was ever given was given to me by various influential figures in my life. I have been told to cherish the now. It is important to look ahead in your future, but being able to appreciate what’s actively going on in your life at any given moment is a skill everyone should learn.
