Pulling at Threads: Marketing on a New Platform

Meta’s Newest Social Media Outlet Could Launch Ads in 2024

We’d bet that you’ve read about the battle between X (Twitter) and Threads. If you haven’t, you should totally check out our blog post about it here.

There’s exciting news in the fight between these two social media platforms; Threads is on track to open its doors for advertising content later on this year! This is an exciting opportunity for digital marketers and those looking to tout their business online. Read on to learn about how advertising on this new platform could possibly be a boon for your brand!

What is Threads?

Threads is a short format social media platform, similar in many ways to X (Twitter). Users have the ability to post a text update of up to 500 characters and can also share pictures, videos, and links.

Threads is Meta’s reply to X’s massive shakeups over the last year and a half, and it’s managed to capitalize on that opportunity. More than 160 million users are currently using the platform, and that means there are 160 million sets of eyes that are ready to start seeing ads on Threads!

What kinds of ads can I run?

Meta hasn’t officially stated the types of ads they will allow to be run on Threads, but we can make some educated guesses. Thanks to Meta’s Advantage+, ads can be adjusted to fit a variety of different formats, meaning that ads currently running on Facebook or Instagram may only require very minimal changes to work on Threads.

Do I have to set up a completely new account?

Though it isn’t a certainty, Meta has made it clear it expects Threads advertising to be run through their Advantage+ platform, which is the platform currently in use for Facebook and Instagram advertising.

This means there won’t be nearly as high of a learning curve for those looking to begin advertising on Threads, and it may be as simple as checking a box to allow Facebook and Instagram ads to serve on this new platform. Only time will tell, but it’s promising that Meta is trying to house all its advertising capabilities on the same interface.

Though Meta has made public its intentions to get advertising up and running later on in 2024, there’s no set date for a Threads ads rollout yet. Even though it may be weeks or even months away, it pays to recognize the value that an entirely new platform can bring to the world of digital advertising, providing a vast new audience to tap into.
