BPM Intern Spotlight: Lena Weigel

Free Knowledge » Uncategorized » BPM Intern Spotlight: Lena Weigel

Meet aspiring marketer, Lena Weigel! Lena joined BPM a little over a month ago as our fall intern and has already made a strong impression with her creativity and drive to learn. A senior at UW–La Crosse, Lena is majoring in communication with a minor in business administration.

Lena’s been diving into both the strategic and creative sides of BPM’s work, sharpening her project management and analytical abilities while contributing fresh ideas to our team.

By combining her academic studies with real-world experience at BPM, Lena is building the foundation for a successful career in marketing and communications. Learn more about Lena below!

Where did you grow up? What’s the most interesting thing about your hometown?

I grew up in Madison, WI. The downtown area – home to the UW–Madison campus and the State Capitol – creates such an energetic, lively atmosphere!  There is always something happening. It’s a very active city. Whether it’s concerts, a bike ride along the lakes, or exploring the city’s history, Madison is a great mid-sized city that attracts all kinds of interesting people.

Why did you choose to pursue a major in communication and a minor in business administration?

I chose communication because it equips you with versatile skills that apply across industries in everyday life. It’s a field that’s people-centered and essential for leadership. Pairing it with a business administration minor adds credibility, gives me specialized knowledge, and provides a well-rounded foundation that prepares me for professional roles and future leadership opportunities.

What interests or excites you the most about marketing?

Marketing is people focused, which is what excites me most. It also blends creativity, strategy, and measurable impact – it’s fast moving and dynamic. At its core, it’s about building a community and seeing the tangible growth of that impact, which I find incredibly rewarding.

Why did you choose to intern at BPM?

I chose to join BPM as an intern, because it offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in both the creative and strategic sides of marketing. An internship with BPM allows me to develop skills in all areas. Exposure to different projects and the chance to contribute will provide a solid foundation for my future career.

What skills are you hoping to master by the end of your internship?

I would love to learn more about collaboration, project management as well as adaptability and analytical thinking, especially when it comes to marketing trends. Ultimately, I’d like to leave my internship with a strong balance of creative, technical and communication skills to thrive in any marketing role after graduation.

What is your current dream job?

My dream job has always been to work for NASA in some capacity. But my current, more realistic dream job would be to one day start my own marketing firm or business.

How do you like to spend your time outside of work or school? What are your favorite hobbies?

I love music – almost any genre… apart from maybe heavy metal. I find myself listening to music during any of my hobbies, like when I’m drawing, working out, exploring outdoors/cities, or hanging out with friends. I also love learning! This includes reading, listening to podcasts or watching documentaries. Lately, I’ve been working on my golf game (I still suck, but I’m improving!). Staying active and hanging with friends is where you’ll find me most.

What’s your go-to productivity hack when you’re busy?

Lists and organization are everything! I tend to isolate or go somewhere to focus; I have horrible ADHD. Once I get started, I can usually power through easily.

What’s the one phone app you can’t live without — why?

Honestly, the iPhone messaging app. It’s simple, but it keeps me connected to a lot of my friends who moved to different cities after graduation. I feel like I’m always yapping to them or my boyfriend. It’s how I plan everything: texting myself reminders (I’m the only pinned chat) or making plans.

What is something interesting most people don’t know about you?

I was adopted when I was 9 months old.

What topic could you give an hour-long presentation on with little to no preparation?

Surviving an apocalypse – all aspects.

What’s your go-to karaoke song?

Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door (the Guns N’ Roses version)

What’s the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?

“Don’t die at 25 and wait to get buried 50 years later.” – Benny Franklin

The original was “Many young men die at age 25, but are not buried until they’re 75.” – Benjamin Franklin
